Description

Fortune Gram Flour (Besan) is a finely ground, golden-creamy powder with a naturally nutty aroma that adds depth and a delicate sweetness to dishes. Made from high-quality chickpeas, it has an excellent binding, thickening, and crispy coating. It's a classic staple of Indian cuisine: you can use it to make pakoras and bhajis, besan chili pancakes (a vegan "omelet" alternative), koftas, kadhis, and sweets like besan laddoo and burfi. It also works well in fusion cuisine—in socca/farinata, gluten-free baked goods, blondies, or as a natural thickener for soups and sauces. It creates a light, crispy coating in frying batters; it also provides a springy, egg-free binder in plant-based patties and burgers. Tip: Sift before use to avoid lumps. For the chili batter, mix about 1 part besan with 1 part water, add salt, a pinch of turmeric, cumin (jeera), coriander, or ajwain; let sit for 5-10 minutes to hydrate. Add a little rice flour to the breading for extra crunch. Besan is naturally gluten-free* and high in plant-based protein and fiber, making it a perfect complement to a daily plant-based diet. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; refrigerate during warmer months to preserve freshness and flavor. *Allergy information: This product is naturally gluten-free, but traces may be present depending on the manufacturer – check the label.
