Description
Phil Supreme Bagoong Alamang is a distinctive Filipino culinary product made from very small shrimp, known as bagoong alamang. Bagoong represents an important group of traditional Filipino flavoring condiments prepared from fish or seafood, while the term alamang refers to the variant based on tiny shrimp. The product is characterized by an intense aroma, pronounced saltiness, and a deep umami flavor typical of seafood preserves. Depending on the recipe, bagoong alamang may be salted, fermented, sautéed, or additionally seasoned, so the exact production method of the Phil Supreme product and the presence of sugar, chili, garlic, oil, or other ingredients should be determined solely based on the current label. Bagoong Alamang should not be equated with all Asian products generally referred to as shrimp paste. In the Filipino version, the characteristic texture of small shrimp is often preserved, whereas some shrimp pastes from other Asian countries appear as a uniform, very compact mass. The product is primarily used as an intense flavor enhancer, and usually, only a small amount is sufficient. One of the most well-known combinations in Filipino cuisine is bagoong alamang served with kare-kare – a traditional dish with a milder character, where the salty and intense shrimp condiment provides a distinct flavor contrast. Bagoong is also a popular accompaniment to sour, unripe green mango. It can be served with rice, vegetables, and meat dishes, as well as used as an ingredient during frying and sauce preparation. Its intense flavor makes the product a source of distinctive umami taste in dishes inspired by Filipino cuisine. Due to the high concentration of flavor, it is advisable to start with a small amount and gradually adjust the portion to personal preferences. The pronounced shrimp aroma upon opening the package is a natural feature of this type of product and does not in itself indicate spoilage. If the product contains oil or visible pieces of shrimp and spices, natural separation of individual components may occur during storage. Before use, follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding mixing, storage, and any necessary processing. Phil Supreme Bagoong Alamang is an ingredient particularly useful when preparing traditional Filipino dishes and for those seeking an intense, salty, shrimp-flavored condiment with a distinct umami character.
