Description

Jaimin Puffed Rice Basmati Mamra is a light and crispy puffed rice product made from basmati rice. The product belongs to a group of popular puffed rice products in India known by the names mamra, murmura, muri, or kurmura, with the terminology varying depending on the region and language. During the production process, properly prepared rice grains increase in volume and acquire a characteristic light, porous, and crispy structure. Unlike regular raw basmati rice, the product is not intended for traditional cooking as a curry side dish but primarily for direct use in snacks and traditional mixes. Mamra is especially popular in Indian cuisine as a base for various types of chaat snacks. One of the best-known uses is bhel puri, where puffed rice is combined with vegetables, chutneys, spices, and crunchy additions. The product can also be used to prepare chivda, namkeen, and homemade snack mixes. Depending on the recipe, mamra can be combined with roasted peanuts, chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, fresh coriander, chili, spices, and sweet, sour, or spicy chutneys. The neutral character of the rice makes it easy to absorb the aromas of other ingredients. It can also be lightly roasted with spices to prepare a warm, crispy snack. Puffed rice is also used in sweet recipes, where it is combined, among other things, with jaggery or other ingredients according to traditional recipes. The term "Basmati" indicates the type of rice used for production and distinguishes the product from mamra made from other rice varieties. However, the puffing process significantly changes the grain's structure, so the finished product should not be expected to be in the same form as cooked basmati rice. Puffed rice has a very low weight relative to its volume and easily absorbs moisture from the environment. For this reason, airtight storage after opening is especially important, as moisture leads to a rapid loss of the characteristic crispiness. Jaimin Basmati Mamra Puffed Rice is a practical ingredient for preparing bhel puri, chaat, namkeen, chivda, and other traditional and contemporary snacks inspired by Indian cuisine.
